DAGNEY JOHNSON STATE BOTANICAL SITE 

The Dagney Johnson State Botanical Site is located on the northern third of the island of Key Largo and includes 2,500 acres. This unit has been under active acquisition since 1982 as part of Florida's Conservation and Recreational Lands program. These park lands are being acquired to protect the unique upland habitats associated with John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park and Crocodile Lakes National Wildlife Refuge. Key Largo Hammocks is designated by the State as an 'Area of Critical Concern'. It is home to 84 protected species of plants and animals including the endangered American crocodile and the Key Largo woodrat. The site comprises the largest contiguous tracts of subtropical West Indian hardwood hammock found in the United States. 

bulletThe park is open daily to the public from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and meets ADA standards. 
bulletThe day use area and nature trail are located one-half mile north of U.S. I on County Road 905.
bulletMotorized vehicles are prohibited.
bulletVisitors are required to stay on paved roadways and the designated trail to minimize impacts to the natural resources.
bulletAll plant and animal life is protected in State Parks. Collecting is strictly prohibited.
bulletIn order to enjoy your visit, you should wear walking shoes and bring mosquito repellent.
